Values of Life

We talk about what we regard as our values, but I have a list that I am sure you need for your mental toolkit. These values were discovered by me while I was contemplating the creation story of the world. I am not claiming the story is true, but I am saying that it has good metaphorical meaning.

The story opens with the creation of light on the first day. The second day the waters divide above and below, and on the third day dry land begins to appear with plants created to grow everywhere. These events reminded me of three very important values that are similar.

The first is "Vision." Vision is like the light of the first day. It helps one to see the goals that are not yet achieved. This value is always the necessary first step in the attainment of anything. This is not just a view of what you want in the future, but needs to be a clear view of what you could do with this attainment if you had it. Your desire for this has to be deep and only becomes vision when it lights up your life enough to be obvious.

The second value is "Understanding." The second day, light shined on the waters long enough to begin to make the surface rise into the sky. Before a person can achieve their vision, they need to build an understanding that divides facts not unlike the dividing of the waters at creation.

The third value is "Resolve." I really like this one. Since waters are being separated from the earth, dry land begins to appear on the third day. Plant life was then created to cover the earth. The part I like about this is that plants have one outlook on life, either grow, or die! That is resolve. I am going to accomplish this or die trying. This is just the exact attitude that one needs to power oneself through to accomplishment.
